Controlled dismantling and circular reuse of a large-scale vehicle plant
The challenge
At its production site in Vorst, Brussels, global automotive manufacturer initiated the full decommissioning of a major vehicle production facility. The site covered approximately 488,000 m² and contained a wide range of complex automotive production assets.
The project required intensive coordination with it’s management, strict safety governance and the ability to continuously scale manpower to match changing project phases from medium, to large, to medium, to extra large et cetera.
The solution & execution
Gerritsen Group was appointed to execute the dismantling programme under full project control, with safety and transparency as non-negotiable principles. Weekly meetings were held between the project managers and the client-side executives.
During the dismantling phase, complete production lines were stripped. Various assets were relocated to other sites within the manufacturing company, other machines were sold directly, peripheral equipment was auctioned, and remaining materials and residuals were professionally removed for reuse or scrap.
The result
Within a timeframe of approximately one year, the entire production site was dismantled and delivered fully cleared and clean, in accordance with all safety, environmental and contractual requirements.
Production assets were successfully redistributed across multiple reuse channels, ensuring optimal circular value creation while minimising waste. The project demonstrated full operational control — even at extreme scale — without compromising safety or planning reliability.
