The challenge
A global pharmaceutical leader required the step-by-step relocation of an entire production department. The facilities involved multiple production forms — tablets, powders and liquids — each with its own technical, hygienic and regulatory requirements.
The relocation took place across multiple floors (levels 1 to 3) and between international locations, including Ludwigshafen (Germany) and Ireland. The project demanded long-term planning, phased execution and the ability to continuously scale resources up or down without disrupting ongoing operations.
The solution & execution
After initially being introduced via an equipment buyer, Gerritsen Group quickly became a direct and trusted partner for the relocation program. We delivered a fully phased, turnkey solution over an extended period, maintaining flexibility throughout the project lifecycle. Scope of work included:
- Phased dismantling of pharmaceutical production equipment
- Specialist packaging suitable for pharmaceutical machinery and clean environments
- International transport and logistics coordination
- Relocation of equipment across multiple floors and buildings
- Reinstallation, including precise levelling, anchoring and reconnection
- Turnkey handover of fully operational production assets
The project ran for approximately 18 months, during which Gerritsen Group continuously adjusted capacity and manpower to match the client’s evolving planning and production needs.
The result
The complete department was successfully relocated in phases, without compromising safety, quality or operational continuity. All machines were delivered, reinstalled and handed over fully operational, accurately aligned, anchored and reconnected.
The flexible execution model allowed AbbVie to maintain control over production planning while relying on Gerritsen Group for predictable delivery and technical precision. The project was ultimately completed as a turnkey relocation, meeting both timeline and quality expectations.
