Circular asset recovery for a biomass power facility in Germany
The challenge
In central Germany, Trockenstabilat-Anlage Aßlar GmbH & Co. KG operated a specialised recycling facility converting household waste into green electricity. Combustible materials were processed in an industrial furnace system, supplying a dedicated power plant.
Due to increasing pressure in the waste processing market and a shortage of household waste streams, the facility was forced to shut down. In this sector, furnace downtime leads to significant penalties, making continued operation economically unviable. The closure marked the end of a unique, family-owned enterprise, founded and led by Hermann Hofmann.
The challenge was to responsibly dismantle the entire facility, recover maximum value from movable assets and leave the site fully cleared, all while respecting the legacy of the business.
The solution & execution
Gerritsen Group was appointed to manage the complete dismantling and asset recovery process, with a strong focus on circular reuse. Scope of work included:
- Full clearance of the entire facility, including all movable assets
- Careful dismantling of recycling and energy-generation equipment
- Asset valuation, preparation and resale to multiple buyers across Europe
- Coordination of logistics for cross-border transport
- Final delivery of a fully empty and clean site
All activities were executed under strict safety procedures due to the nature of combustible materials and former furnace installations.
The result
All reusable machinery and equipment were successfully sold and redeployed to various end users across Europe, extending the lifecycle of valuable industrial assets. Remaining materials were responsibly prepared for recycling.
The site was handed over completely cleared, marking a controlled and dignified closure of a facility that had contributed to renewable energy production for many years.
